This past Sunday, Palm Sunday for us, Stan preached from John 12:12ff, on Jesus's triumphant entry into Jerusalem. In the morning service, He particularly helped us to see King Jesus coming to establish His Kingdom of peace. In the evening service, we saw how Jesus and the manner of His arrival fulfilled many OT prophecies.
The common, national greeting on this coming holiday is not "Happy Easter!" but "Hristos vaskrse!" (Christ is risen!) with the reply "Vaistunu vaskrse!" (He is risen, indeed!). As believers, we exchange these greetings with joy; sadly, for many who don't know Christ, the words have no meaning at all. For example, one young Montenegrin in a recent Bible study was astounded to learn that Jesus rose from the dead (despite hearing this greeting all her life). This is why we are here. The people walk in great darkness. Please pray for us to clearly share the light of the gospel, for God to open ears, eyes, and hearts to hear, see, and receive the Truth.
This coming Easter Sunday coincides with the last Sunday of the month, the day of our usual monthly Fellowship Lunch. We are excited to share an extra-festive meal together and spend time with one another on such a special occasion. Please pray for us to grow in our love and service to one another, but especially for the unsaved family members who will be joining us that day. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:35
We give thanks to the Lord above for all of you reading this newsletter, praying faithfully, supporting us sacrificially; you are God's blessing to us and His people in Montenegro. To God be the glory! With great love and appreciation,
Stan and Vicki Surbatovich
